burger with bourbon sauce on a plate

This is such a unique way to spend all of your leftover booze you may have sitting at home, it doesn’t even have to be the most expensive Whiskey on your bar, as it will get reduced in a delicious sweet sauce.

You can definitely call this a gourmet beef burger recipe, that’s why we included crispy bacon that goes into the whiskey sauce!

Does whiskey go well with burgers?

Whiskey goes perfectly in sauces but it may also be poured into the beef patties, to give aroma and flavour.

It doesn’t contain any alcohol in a bourbon burger as it evaporates during cooking. Only the fragrance and acidity will remain.

What can you put in a beef burger?

Here are some unusual suggestions of toppings you can put on your burger for an innovative and unique recipe:

  • Red Onion Pickle
  • Sauteed jalapeño peppers
  • Caramelized onions
  • Blue cheese
  • Grilled pineapple
  • Fried egg
  • Tomato or mango chutney
  • Guacamole and tortillas chips

Tips to season and cook beef burger patties

It seems easy to make burger patties but there are a few tips you can try to enhance the flavours of the meat.

Firstly, the most important is to salt the patties just before grilling. Then you have to preheat a heavy-bottomed skillet, preferably a cast iron pan. You want to seal the meat and let the inside juicy and soft. Don’t forget to add some freshly cracked black pepper, too.

The best ground beef to make a burger patties is a 15 to 20% fat ground beef. If using lean ground beef, add extra oil to the pan before grilling.
